Ben Swift, 21 years old and his first year like a professional, finished 3rd at the second stage of the Giro d'italia.
He was beaten at the sprint by the winner Petacchi and the GC leader Marc Cavendish.
Filippo Pozzato attacked in the last climb together with Gilbert and Gasparotto but the group, lead by the sprinter’s team, caught them in the final 3 km’s. 

Ben Swift: “I’m happy because I took my first podium place and behind two champions like Petacchi and Cavendish. I was on Petacchi’s wheel when he started strong. I chose to follow Cavendish that followed him so I could stay in a slipstream until the finish line. 
Filippo Pozzato: “I tried but without luck. Tomorrow I’ll try again because we'll be arriving near my hometown”.
