Challenge of Mallorca: Colom takes “Trofeo Inca”
After the victories of Gert Steegmans and Robbie McEwen, Team Katusha resumed control of the Challenge Mallorca with Antonio Colom soloing to victory into his home town of Bunyola.
Colom attacked the lead group with 13km to go and finished 56 seconds ahead of a four-man chase group. Colom's victory moved the 30-year-old Spaniard into first overall of the Challenge Mallorca, a race he won in 2004.
"I'm very happy with this victory," said Colom. "I'm glad to win in front of my family and in front of my friends. This is satisfaction you can’t buy. Today the whole team worked for my victory and I want to thank them. I won this challenge in 2004, I hope to win it again."
